With good confidence from the last game, it was time for the ladies second team to welcome Cardiff Met 1st to the SEH. Despite the rain and grey November weather, the Ladies 2nd managed to turn up the heat by winning 3-0. With a new squad and some mixing of rotations, it was an exciting (or nerve wrecking, depends who you ask) game to watch with a “unique” touch. After we’d gotten the hang of it, we got some great sets from Alicia, some sneaky tips from Maria, good defence and hitting from the rest of the players and, which shouldn’t be surprising by now, some smashing serves from our serve-machine Julie. The more our communication improved, the better we started playing and we won the first set. Coach Anna and broken-foot Beccy could finally breathe for a moment. The second set showed more consistent play and we saw some good blocking from Maria and Nicole, as well as some really nice hitting by Daphne, Thara and Dasha. Just to make sure we turned the heat up even more, we finished with a jump-serve by Nicole. That’s how we like to get set-point after all. The third set started out a bit shaky, but after some good coaching and cheering from our wonderful supporters, it ended with an easy win. The celebrating (and eating fudge) could start!
